E-waste management in the Pacific (video)
SPREP Publications, Waste Management and Pollution Control
Available Online
2024
E-Waste (or end of life electrical products), when discarded / disposed outside, pose environmental and health risks. There are easy ways available for safe storage, and end of life product management and recovery. We also recommend choosing quality electrical items to reduce the e-waste generation (as products last longer and are repairable) and choosing environmental sound management of items once it reached its end of life. Watch this short animation to learn more.

2024
The Solomon Islands National Plan of Action for Marine Turtles 2023 - 2027 was formally launched on 17 July 2024. The NPOA will support the maintenance of healthy populations of marine turtles that nest and forage in Solomon Islands, for the benefit of Solomon Islanders. All species of marine turtles are threatened with extinction, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species.

Solomon Islands National Plan of Action for Marine Turtles 2023-2027
SPREP Publications, Biodiversity Conservation
Available Online
2024
It is through ministerial leadership with relevant stakeholders and partners’ collaboration that produces and finalizes the Solomon Islands National Plan of Action for Marine Turtles (NPOA) 2023-2027. This has gone through important strategic consultative process, which embraces strong collaborations with both the international and regional partners in response to national calls for sustainable management of marine turtles in Solomon Islands and the Pacific region. The NPOA envisions the need to protect, manage and sustainably utilize marine turtles in Solomon Islands for the benefit of Solomon Islanders. This further demonstrates the Solomon Islands Government’s commitment to fulfill regional and international obligations under relevant conventions relating to the conservation of marine turtles.

Ornithologist Andrew Morris joined the Biological Rapid Assessment (BIORAP) team to Malekula to lead the bird study in Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) in July 2022. Bird species were identified by listening to bird calls, audio recordings, visual sighting, and photographs taken with special bird cameras. In the KBAs, the key bird species found include the Vanuatu Kingfisher, Vanuatu Streak Fantail, and Vanuatu White Eye.
